Mamenchisaurus was a sauropod. Its generic name refers to the place where its first remains were found in 1954, during the construction of a river crossing, near Yibin in China (Mamingxi, mistakenly recorded as Mamenxi). They lived in Asia (areas of today’s China and Thailand).

Currently the genus Mamenchisaurus includes seven species. The first described species was discovered during construction works and named Mamenchisaurus constructus – it was 13 metres long. Its diet consisted of hard plant parts, which is why it had strong teeth.
