number on the map: 37

Class: Mammalia

Saber-tooth is a term used for all extinct predators from the Felidae family with very large fangs in the jaw that protruded outwards even when the mouth was closed. Smilodon had little to do with the tiger or modern cats.

It lived in North and South America in the Pleistocene. There are three species in the Smilodon genus: the smallest Smilodon gracilis, the medium-sized Smilodon fatalis and the largest Smilodon populator. They probably did not have the ability to climb but were very good jumpers thanks to the massive bone structure of their limbs.
