Vulcanodon
Vulcanodon, Raath, 1972
number on the map: 22
Superorder: Dinosauria
Clade: Saurischia
Vulcanodon belongs to the oldest sauropods. It owes its name to the place its skeleton was found: in a canyon at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, between layers of volcanic rocks. Next to the remains of the Vulcanodon, there were teeth of a large dinosaur, which probably fed on its body. Vulcanodon was one of the smaller sauropods. Its femur was 110 centimetres long.
It moved slowly on four massive legs with short claws. It had a small head, elongated neck and a tail jutting backwards. This physique clearly indicates herbivorousness.
