Zamieszkuje otwarte, suche lasy (głównie dębowe i sosnowe) oraz przerywane zaroślami i tra-
wiastymi polanami rejony górskie do wysokości 3000 m n.p.m. Podobnie jak u wielu gatunków bażantów Azji Wschodniej, jego liczebność ciągle maleje w wyniku utraty siedlisk spowodowanej intensyfikacją rolnictwa. Zagrożeniem są również częste polowania prowadzone przez górskie plemiona, które zamieszkują ten sam obszar.

Der Burmafasan lebt in offenen, trockenen Wäldern (vor allem Eichen- und Kiefernwälder), sowie auf mit Dickicht und Gras zugewachsenen Berggebieten bis zur Höhe von 3000 m ü.d.M. Wie bei vielen ostasiatischen Fasanenarten, nimmt seine Zahl ständig ab, aufgrund des durch Intensivierung der Landwirtschaft verursachten Verlustes des Lebensraums. Jagd durch Bergstämme, die auf den gleichen Gebieten leben, ist ebenfalls eine Bedrohung.

It inhabits open, dry forests (mainly oak and pine) as well as mountain areas covered with thickets and grassy clearings up to an altitude of 3000 m above sea level. Like many other pheasant species in East Asia, Hume’s pheasant population is decreasing as a result of habitat loss caused by the intensification of agriculture. Frequent hunting by mountain tribes that inhabit the same area is also a threat.
